There are two words that most of us fear, and that would be the term given to loss of power, a power outage. When individuals or families experience even one day with the loss of their electricity, total chaos can break loose in a household.

Unfortunately most people take for granted their lights will come on when the switch is flipped, and their drinks and food kept safely cold. Many even forget how they fortunate they are until they go through the loss of electricity for even an hour.

Modern man has grown comfortably accustomed to having power at all times, with just the flip of a switch people are used to having instant light provided. While most homes are equipped with protection for the event of a power outage, many more homes are unprepared, nor able to bear the loss of power.

Generally a power outage is the direct result of weather however there are numerous reasons why power outages happen. Though reasons such as blown transformers and other similar issues can cause the homes in a particular area to suffer from a power outage, most causes are due to storms.

There are many types of storms all over the country that cause the power to be eliminated from one particular area, to the entire town and surrounding towns to suffer power loss. Most of these storms have the capability to wipe the power out for days, even weeks.

These storms are commonly referred to as Tornadoes, Hurricanes, and Snow and Hail storms, to many other natural forces that are to be reckoned with. Many homeowners and renters alike, own a power generator to tide them over in such times.

Most of these generators are gas powered generators, which can often pose a problem. Often a gas powered generator can fail to provide itself useful for one simple reason, lack of gas to keep it running.

Though having a gas generator is a brilliant idea, and has been handy through many short lived power outages, it fails to be useful during longer periods of a power outage. If power has been lost in a town, and surrounding towns during large storms, the availability of gas and ability to get to towns that have it can be impossible.

When the power is lost in a town or area, gas stations are useless. The pumps that deliver gas to the actual gas pump will not work without power going to them.

In this event even the gas powered generator is proven to be as useless as a gas station without power to pump gas. Often traveling to the nearest town is impossible due to the roads being blocked to through traffic by fallen trees and other types of storm debris.

Truly in times such as these the people are absolutely helpless and at the complete mercy of the ability of the electric companies to get the power lines back up and juice running through them. These times can render even the most storm prepared household ill prepared.

Having food and supplies is essential to survival during storms, though without electricity to cook or warm water for bathing, can find these homes unprepared. A power outage is a serious situation that all homes need to consider and be prepared for.

Researching and investing in a solar powered generator would be an ideal thing to consider for such times.
